      <image:title>Pilates-Based Rehabilitation - Pilates-Based Rehabilitation</image:title>
<image:caption>Pilates is a series of exercises that can be performed with and without equipment. These exercises are very specific and designed to integrate the whole body in order to improve strength, flexibility, control, precision, agility and power. It focuses on establishing the true meaning of core muscles. Not just a strong core, but a dynamic, efficient, and controlled spine. With a precise understanding of how to control the center of your body, the true potential of the rest of the body can be achieved without strain and discomfort. Pilates celebrates the uniqueness of every body, and does not try to fit it into one perfect posture. It offers greater flexibility and modifications than most forms of physical therapy and finds ways to allow each body to progress through strength despite perceived barriers or limitations.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Cranio-Sacral Therapy - CranioSacral Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>CranioSacral therapy is a technique that uses a light touch approach designed to give space and gentle direction for the body to restore correct function and homeostasis. It is used to alleviate pain, stress, and asymmetries by improving the physical connection of the skull bones, brain, spinal cord, and sacrum to allow spinal fluid to flow more freely. In improving the natural function of the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system and the rest of the body will have a better chance of healing and recovery. It works through the body’s connective tissue network (fascia), which is highly innervated, to release pain and tension through the whole body.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Visceral Manipulation - Visceral Manipulation</image:title>
<image:caption>The Barral visceral manipulation technique is a gentle hands-on approach used to help unwind fascial tension around organs (viscera) and organ ligaments. It’s goal is to promote normal tone and movements of the viscera in order to improve the function of the organ and organ systems together. The connections of the fascia and ligaments to other structures of the body may also effect the function and mobility of the musculoskeletal system. These treatments can reduce chronic pain and restore dysfunctional movement patterns that have not improved with other forms of treatment.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The treatment of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Ehlers Danlos syndrome requires specific understanding and training to fully understand the spectrum of the condition. It is a complex syndrome that involves many different body systems and therefore requires many different techniques to address them. Learning to accommodate for these differences is hard to navigate on one’s own and takes a therapist with compassion, a keen eye, and sensitive hands to effectively evaluate and treat the whole person.</image:caption>

<image:title>For Patients - What to Expect at Your First Appointment</image:title>
<image:caption>On the day of your first appointment, you will start in a private room with Alix, where she will listen and ask questions to better understand your medical history and story of why you are here. After that she will do a comprehensive evaluation of all body parts that may play a role in your symptoms. Depending on why you are here, she will go more in-depth with different types of assessments that can help her find the root cause and best treatments for you. It is always important to communicate if anything is painful, uncomfortable, or you are feeling confused about the course of the evaluation. After this, she will discuss findings and create a treatment plan that will best suit your needs and lifestyle. It is best to wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Complex Orthopedics - Complex Orthopedic Injuries</image:title>
<image:caption>Orthopedic physical therapy focuses on the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Some injuries have layers of issues and injuries from the past, that may play into the current problem. Alix has a special interest in working with people on the intention behind movements. She teaches more than just strength and flexibility. She takes into account each person’s resting muscle and fascial tone. She looks for how someone isolates and integrates multiple joints, how they grade muscle activation patterns and their ability to coordinate multiple joints into one movement pattern. Alix is able to take all of these factors into account to restore functional and pain free movements.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Spine - Spine</image:title>
<image:caption>Whether it is the neck, upper back, or lower back, spine pain and dysfunction is the leading musculoskeletal complaint. The spine itself consists of 364 joints, ligaments, fibrous connective tissue, cartilage, tendon, muscles, discs, and nerves. All of these could contribute to the pain that you have. Differentially diagnosing the root cause may be difficult and frustrating at times but can be addressed with the right strategies.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Chronic Pain - Chronic Pain</image:title>
<image:caption>Pain is considered chronic when it lasts for greater than 3 months and usually affects someone's physical and mental well-being. There may have been an initial trauma or mechanism of injury but the continuation of pain is an abnormal pain signal that travels through specific nerve fibers to the brain, despite appropriate tissue healing. Treatment of chronic pain can be layered and complex and often requires a patient and understanding team that can unfold the many systems involved in this cycle.</image:caption>
